What is BPI?
The Brand Perception Index (BPI) is a composite score from 0-100 that measures how well AI systems represent your brand.
Unlike simple sentiment scores, BPI evaluates six distinct dimensions that matter for brand discovery and conversion in AI-assisted search.
**Score ranges:**
- 80-100: Excellent - AI is a strong advocate for your brand
- 70-79: Good - Minor gaps to address
- 50-69: Needs work - Significant perception issues
- Below 50: Critical - AI may be actively harming your brand
The Six Metrics
BPI is calculated from six weighted metrics:
**1. Accuracy (20%)**
Does AI state correct facts about your brand? We compare responses against your Knowledge Base to detect outdated pricing, wrong features, or fabricated claims.
**2. Credibility (20%)**
Does AI cite sources? Use authoritative language? Present your brand as established and trustworthy?
**3. Sentiment (15%)**
Is the tone positive, neutral, or negative? Does it align with your brand voice?
**4. Coverage (15%)**
Are your key features and differentiators mentioned? Or just surface-level information?
**5. Visibility (15%)**
Where do you appear in responses? First mention? Buried at the end? Not mentioned at all in category queries?
**6. Recommendation (15%)**
Does AI actually recommend your product? With enthusiasm? Or just list you as an option?
How Scores Are Calculated
For each audit query, we analyze the AI response and score it 0-100 on each metric.
The scoring uses a combination of:
- Semantic analysis (understanding meaning, not just keywords)
- Knowledge Base comparison (fact-checking against your data)
- Competitive context (how you're positioned vs. competitors)
- Citation detection (identifying source quality)
Individual query scores are averaged within each metric, then weighted to produce your final BPI.
Improving Your BPI
Focus on the lowest-scoring metrics first:
**Low Accuracy?**
- Upload more documents to your Knowledge Base
- Ensure your website has current, crawlable information
- Consider a GEO content campaign to update AI training data
**Low Visibility?**
- Create content specifically optimized for AI discovery
- Build citations on high-authority sources
- Target the specific queries where you're missing
**Low Recommendation?**
- Strengthen social proof and reviews
- Ensure comparison content positions you favorably
- Address any negative signals AI might be finding
Track changes over time. Meaningful BPI improvements typically take 4-8 weeks as AI systems update their knowledge.
BPI vs. Competitor Benchmarks
Your absolute BPI matters, but relative position matters more.
In the Intelligence Hub, you can compare your BPI against:
- Industry average
- Direct competitors
- Top performers in your category
A BPI of 65 might be excellent if your industry average is 55. Or it might be concerning if competitors score 80+.
Use competitive intelligence to understand where you stand and where to focus improvement efforts.
